The biggest swing event to hit Essex, started in 2016 in the historic town of Colchester. Jazz singer Lydia Bell has created this phenomenon to bring people together with big band music, swing dancing and all the glamour of the era.
The aim is to stoke the fire of the #swingrevolution whilst also raising money for charity; the 2017 and 2018 events raising money for the homeless charity, Emmaus Colchester - with future events planned around Essex and London to raise money for other important homeless charities.
Think red carpet, think vintage glamour, think high quality music, think cocktails and think a whole lot of fun. It is a night to be shared with friends and a night to remember.
The Swing Spectacular hits Colchester May 2018
On 5th May 2018, from 19:30 the grand Moot Hall at Colchester Town will transform into a glittering vintage dance hall, filled with revelers from all walks of life. The evening includes swing dancing demonstrations, as well as the opportunity to learn some steps from Southend-based swing troupe, The Seaside Stompers. Lydia Bell will be wowing the guests with her sultry sounds and dulcet tones, backed by the fantastic Sweeting Swing Band. The entertainment doesn’t stop there; this year features a brand new vocal trio started by Lydia and featuring two of her fellow GSMD jazz singers, Paper Moon Trio. The venue will be dressed to impress to fit with the theme of the event, plus a vintage photo booth, a speakeasy style cocktail bar and more vintage shenanigans throughout the evening, with opportunities to donate to the charity in different ways.

About Lydia Bell
Lydia is currently studying for a masters in Jazz Singing at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She regularly sings with top swing bands in London, including Hot Shoes and Down For the Count, as well as sultry ‘Vintemporary’ trio Belle Noir. Her vintage sound is a must-hear. This year Lydia is donating the profits to the homeless charity, Emmaus Colchester, a cause Lydia feels passionately about. Lydia says “Following the success of the last two years, it seemed fitting to carry on as an annual event, hopefully raising more money for charity each year. Homelessness is a hugely saddening problem in this country and I am very glad to be able to help out such a wonderful local charity.”
